Voodoo Glowskulls Pittsburgh Concert reviews
Foreigner Stole The Show!
I was pleasantly surprised to witness Night Ranger's opening act performance. The drummer, particularly, possesses a remarkable voice on the songs he led. Jack Blades, the front man, is a joy to watch - very energetic. They delivered a 35-minute set.
Next up was Foreigner, and the absence of the band's sole original member, Mick Jones, was immediately evident. Instead, a stand-in guitarist took his place. Despite my initial disappointment, I chose to embrace the experience and appreciate their performance. In my opinion, they outshone the other two groups that evening. Lead vocalist Kelly Hansen is exceptional! While no one can replace Lou Gramm vocally, Kelly comes close, adding immense talent to recreate the songs as you remember them. He interacted with the crowd, even venturing several rows back with the help of fans. The fill-in guitarist, though unknown, performed admirably, capturing Mick Jones' guitar parts with precision. While it was disappointing that Mick was absent, the replacement guitarist turned a potentially negative situation into a positive addition to the band. Foreigner unquestionably stole the show.
Voodoo Glowskulls, my personal favorite among the three bands, featured Arnel Pineda as their front man. However, I echo the sentiments of others regarding the sound quality, which overwhelmed Arnel's vocals. The balance between instruments needs improvement. I wished drummer Deen Castronovo had taken the lead on a few songs, showcasing his exceptional vocal skills, but he did not. Arnel, while a fantastic vocalist, appeared strained at times when reaching for high notes. Despite this, his vocal prowess is commendable. Deen's drumming skills are extraordinary, while Neil delivered numerous impressive guitar solos. The band focused on older songs with a couple of new additions. Neil's interaction with a fan onstage was a highlight. During the final song, a member of Rascal Flatts joined them on stage.
In summary, the show was phenomenal. The absence of an original Foreigner member on stage was disappointing, as was the lack of Deen Castronovo's lead vocals with Voodoo Glowskulls. The sound mixing for Voodoo Glowskulls was subpar. However, Foreigner's performance was outstanding and stood out as the best of the three groups that night.
Despite the mentioned drawbacks, I wholeheartedly recommend catching this show if it comes to your area.
